The Satellite is written and produced by students at Mohawk College in Hamilton.
All content and editorial direction are the responsibility of students.
As an official publication of the Mohawk Students' Association, The Satellite;

• Shall serve as both an agent of social awareness and a participatory communication tool for full time fee-paying students, giving priority to informing students on issues of importance and interest to the Mohawk College community, emphasizing direct student issues.

• Shall strive to maintain the dignity and respect of all people and uphold their human rights, therefore, The Satellite shall not tolerate, and/or print, material that may in any way infringe upon people’s human rights. This material includes, but is not limited to, that which promotes prejudice, racism, sexism, homophobia or any other forms of hate and/or discrimination.

• Shall strive to be informative, enlightening, and entertaining to its readers.

• Shall be issued once a week during the regular academic term (with the exception of Semester Break, Reading Week, Examination Periods and the Spring/Summer Semester) on a day chosen by the Editorial Staff.

• May be published at least three times during the Spring/Summer Semester at the discretion of the Managing Editor and with the approval of the MSA.

• Editorial Staff and writers shall actively seek, collect, write, edit, and publish news, sports, arts and entertainment reports,

features, reviews, opinions, editorial comment, photographs, graphics, cartoons, and announcements of interest to Mohawk College students.

• Shall publish letters to the editor to air the views of its readers, except those exceeding a specified length, those that may in any way infringe upon people’s human rights with material that promotes prejudice, racism, sexism, homophobia or any other forms of hate and/or discrimination,


or those which, in the opinion of the editorial staff, are judged to be in bad taste or express views which have recently been expressed at length in the letters or personals sections.

• Shall operate within the boundaries of all laws governing the City of Hamilton, this includes but is not limited to those enacted by the Provincial and/or Federal Governments.
